A Break from Writing - Brightlinsea

I was in Brighlingsea on the Essex coast all last week and it was a welcome break from all things to do with writing. It was timed perfectly because since yesterday complete madness broke out and I now find that I'll be extremely busy for the rest of this year.

The Crows Nest above Coln Yacht Club Brightlingsea
I'd booked The Crows Nest, a modern apartment above Coln Yacht Club after a last-minute online search and was surprised when I arrived. It was an ideal place to spend an early Autumn retreat. The view from the apartment was spectacular as the harbour was just 15 yards away.

Brightlingsea Harbour

I fell in love with a Gothic house next door to us. At night it looked spectacular when lit up and so out of place facing the harbour. I would be interested to know why it was built there and its history.

Brightlingsea provided a good base from which to find new places to explore and the locals are some of the friendliest people I've ever met. It was like stepping back in time.

Thorrington Mill - I climbed the inside and felt like I was in a Thomas Hardy novel
Pink Palace Tea Rooms Clacton-on-Sea
Colchester Castle

I won't show you all my holiday photos but I would recommend a visit to this neck of the woods if you get the opportunity to.

Now... I'm back into the swing of things and already have radio interviews lined up for this month. What made me really smile was seeing a photo from Bonnie in Canada who had bought my first two books. It was such a thoughtful and cheery thing to do. It made all my hours of writing worthwhile. THANK YOU BONNIE.
